F4E and German fusion association IPP present ELISE in new film clip

The first-ever film clip about F4E’s collaboration with a European fusion association is now available. The clip focuses on ELISE (Extraction from a Large Ion Source Experiment), currently operating at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) in Garching, Germany, thanks to F4E funding worth 4 million EUR.

ELISE is an experiment for the development of one of the main heating systems of ITER – the Neutral Beam – which will inject a high energy beam into the plasma of the ITER machine in order to heat it up to the million degrees centigrade temperature necessary for the fusion reaction to occur.

Details of the F4E-IPP collaboration and how the ELISE machine works are explained in the clip by the key people involved in the project. Viewers will also learn of the importance of the experiment and its role in the ITER Neutral Beam development.
