IAEA Fusion Energy Conference

IAEA Fusion Energy Conference

Celebrating fifty years of fusion and entering into the burning plasma era” was the theme of the 22nd IAEA Fusion Energy Conference (FEC) which took place in GenevaSwitzerland from October 13 to 18, 2008.

Back in 1958, the second United Nations Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, held in Geneva, proved to be an important event for fusion research. It featured the participation of 61 countries, with 21 countries exhibiting fusion devices, fission reactors, alternative concepts and models of nuclear power plants. For the first time the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the U

Following this tradition the 2008 FEC conference, organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), provided a forum to present and discuss current progress and developments in fusion experiments, theory and technology.
During the event, the IAEA and the ITER Organization took the opportunity to sign a
Co-operation Agreement aimed at strengthening the working relationship between both organisations.

F4E participated to this event with members of staff Paul Thomas, Gabriella Saibene, Alfredo Portone and Jesus Izquierdo who presented their research papers.
F4E was also present with its stand at the ITER Expo held at the Hall des Pas Perdus, adjacent to the main Assembly Hall of the Palace of Nations of the UN organisation in Geneva.
