Jean-Marc Filhol appointed F4E Director ad interim

Following the appointment of Pietro Barabaschi as Director-General of the ITER Organization, the Governing Board has appointed Jean-Marc Filhol as F4E Director ad interim.

In thanking the members of the Governing Board for their trust, J.-M. Filhol highlighted his priorities for this interim period: “I will work together with the rest of the Senior Team to ensure a smooth operation of F4E and preserve a peaceful working environment for all staff, to support the new IO-DG in the restructuring of the ITER project and the integration of IO and F4E, and to prepare the ground for the new F4E Director”.

A French national, J.-M. Filhol has been with F4E since August 2011 and has occupied several Senior Management positions as Head of ITER Department and Head of ITER-Programme Department. In his role of EUDA representative in the ITER project since 2015, he has been representing F4E towards the ITER IO, the other DAs, in the Executive Project Board (EPB) and other ITER governance bodies.

An engineer in Physics with a PhD in nuclear instrumentation, Jean-Marc Filhol was, before joining F4E, Director of the Accelerators and Sources Division as well as Deputy Director General of the French Synchrotron Radiation Facility called SOLEIL. From 2002-2007, he was the SOLEIL Project Director responsible for the Accelerator and Infrastructure construction programmes. Expert in accelerator physics and technology, J.-M. Filhol has contributed to numerous international conferences and workshops, has lectured in accelerator physics and has been member of numerous international scientific and technical advisory committees.

Mr. Filhol will start his tenure as Director ad interim on 16 October 2022 and until the formal appointment of the new F4E Director, foreseen to take his/her duties in the first quarter of 2023.
