On 29 September 2020, F4E’s Governing Board decided by unanimity to extend the contract of Johannes Schwemmer as Director of the Fusion for Energy until 31 December 2023.

“This unanimous decision shows that Mr Schwemmer has the full support of the Governing Board to continue to lead F4E” said F4E GB Chair Dr Beatrix Vierkorn-Rudolph. Dr Massimo Garribba, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission Directorate-General for Energy and Euratom’s representative to F4E’s Governing Board “welcomes the unanimous support of the GB and looks forward to his continued dedication to this international flagship project.”

In thanking the EU Member States and the Commission for the confidence they have placed in him, Johannes Schwemmer said: “I am full of passion to continue moving the ITER project forward and to further develop F4E and its people.”
