The implementation of the ITER Agreement Intellectual Property Rights clauses was the topic of discussion during the first meeting of the ITER Council Working Group on Intellectual Property Management and Dissemination of Information which took place in Barcelona during 3-5 March 2009.
Hosted by F4E and chaired by Vassilis Koutsiouris, specialist on IPR related to ITER, the meeting saw experts from all Domestic Agencies exchange ideas with the ITER Organisation. During the three days a draft text for the “ITER Organisation Rules on Intellectual Property Management and the Dissemination of Information” was developed based on the ITER Agreement’s Annex on Information and Intellectual Property. The main objective of the meeting was to propose some minimal rules to ensure the rational management of all Information and Intellectual Property resulting from the efforts of the ITER Members in the consecution construction of the ITER Project which constitutes one of the main outcomes of this project. Consequently, discussions focused not only on near-term items such as protection of background intellectual property, publication rules and training needs, but also on longer term strategies such as what happens with the IPR after dissolution of the ITER Organisation.
A report will be presented at the ITER Council meeting in June 2009.
