F4E and EUROfusion launch the European Fusion Technology Marketplace

Fusion for Energy (F4E) and EUROfusion have partnered to launch the European Fusion Technology Marketplace, a joint platform to promote technology transfer from the field of fusion to other domains. The website offers companies and experts a diverse portfolio of technologies developed by F4E’s industrial partners and the laboratories forming EUROfusion.

Indeed, the cutting-edge technologies and processes developed for projects like ITER hold great potential beyond the remit of fusion. The mission of the F4E and EUROfusion technology transfer programmes, in collaboration with Viromii and InExtenso as the respective brokers, is to present these technical breakthroughs to the wider European industry and help them make a commercial transition towards new markets.

These efforts are in line with F4E’s new vision, which puts a special focus on building a robust fusion supply chain in Europe. “Fusion presents many synergies with other innovation ecosystems. By promoting breakthroughs and connecting different parties  we are generating new business opportunities and reinforcing Europe’s competitiveness”, asserts F4E Director, Marc Lachaise.

“The expansion of the technology transfer programmes enhance the added value of fusion research to the economy and society, as emphasised in the Euratom Work Programme 2021-2025.” stresses the EUROfusion Programme Manager, Ambrogio Fasoli.

“We have solid experience in assisting interested companies in leveraging fusion know-how. We can offer them expert services, and a flexible intellectual property policy,” explains Carmen Casteras, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Specialist at F4E.

A prize for the best technology transfer

In parallel, F4E has also opened the call for the Fusion Technology Transfer Award 2024. This contest will reward with 10.000 EUR the best project that applies, or plans to apply,  fusion know-how in a non-fusion environment.

In the previous edition, the winner was CEA IRFM, with a project that applied fusion know-how to the developing field of hydrogen-powered aviation.
