F4E welcomes European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen

European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, visited the headquarters of Fusion for Energy (F4E) in Barcelona on Monday, 20 April. The Commissioner was accompanied by members of his cabinet and the Directorate-General for Energy, as well as the Head of the European Commission’s Representation Office in Barcelona, Manuel Szapiro. The delegation was welcomed by the F4E Director, Marc Lachaise, together with members of F4E’s leadership team.

Later, in a meeting, the F4E Director and members of staff informed the Commissioner on the progress of F4E’s contribution to various projects to deliver fusion, a clean and safe alternative for the future energy mix. One of the key points addressed was the impressive scale of the European fusion supply chain, forged through the EU’s investment in pioneering projects like ITER. During the exchange, topics of strategic importance were also addressed such as the international race to commercial fusion, privately funded initiatives, and national fusion strategies.

Commissioner Jørgensen took the floor and expressed his conviction that “fusion energy will be part of the solution to major challenges like energy security, competitiveness and climate change.” He also thanked F4E for its work and reaffirmed the European Commission’s commitment to keeping Europe at the forefront of the race, pointing to the European fusion strategy currently under preparation.

“Fusion can contribute to the energy mix of the future. Fusion for Energy is here to serve this objective by offering the expertise of all staff through our involvement in Europe’s fusion projects, from ITER to JT-60SA and DONES,” said Marc Lachaise, Director of F4E. “It has been an honour to welcome Commissioner Jørgensen and to stress our determination to deliver the energy of the future and empower Europe to lead.”
