F4E industrial partners give feedback on Fusion Expert Group report

The conversations to shape the future EU fusion strategy keep advancing. Following the publication by the European Commission of the Fusion Expert Group (FEG) Opinion Paper, F4E launched a survey to harvest feedback from its industrial partners. The consultation received 42 replies from different organisations across the EU, including large engineering groups, supply chain actors, SMEs, and emerging private fusion developers. The survey’s findings are presented in this report.

The results reveal a strong alignment with the strategic direction proposed by the FEG, particularly the importance of ITER and the need to move swiftly to commercialisation. Respondents also provided suggestions for a clear, agile and inclusive execution of the FEG recommendations. Among other key areas, they point to the need for tailored regulation, better access to innovation funding and a stronger integration of industry into the EU fusion programme.

In addition, the respondents identified F4E as a central player to drive this strategy forward. Given its experience, expertise and supply chain, they see F4E playing a key role in the transition from ITER to the DEMO power plant and the commercial deployment of fusion.
